There are 16 labs in the class, which each student will do in class. We will also discuss the week’s assigned reading and homework. The student who has an interest in science, enjoys hands on experiments and can complete the assigned reading will benefit most from this high school preparatory course. We will learn to compile a lab report for each lab and will take tests to see how much we’ve learned. If you want more information about this science curriculum the web aliress is http://www.highschoolscience.com. The book, “Apologia's General Science”, is very readable. Dr. Wile's writing style is very conversational and friendly. The students will need a one-time materials fee of $25.00 in aliition to a $41.00 textbook. Class fee is $20.00 per month. Intermediate Band

Intermediate band is for those students who have been playing their instruments at least one year. An assessment will be made prior to the beginning of the school year to make sure the student is ready for the intermediate level. The band will participate in two recitals during the school year one at Christmas time and then one at the close of the school year. This is a wonderful opportunity for the student to play in a group setting. Obviously the students will need to have their own instrument or rent one from the local music store (if you need help Mr. Heigl will be glad to see you through this process). The band is limited to woodwinds, brass, and percussion instruments. This class requires a $25.00 one-time music fee and the class fee is $20.00 per month. Dave Heigl will be the instructor.

Obviously the students will need to have their own instrument or rent one from the local music store (if you need help Mr. Heigl will be glad to see you through this process) The band is limited to woodwinds, brass, and percussion instruments. The Public Speaking course is to high school students only during the 1st semester only. I have purchased a public speaking course used to train corporations. We will work on preparing and presenting speeches.

Payment Policy:

Registration Fee - $20 per student

Class Tuition

Each class is $25 per month per student. This is a flat rate for every month regardless of the number of times classes meet. Because of past problems, there will be a late fee of $5 per student for tuition not received by the first Wednesday of the month. Unpaid tuition will result in the student being sent home. Payment for the semester is a convenience and always appreciated. LaVonda Horrar is the class secretary and will be taking care of and collecting all tuition payments. (502-261-0335)

Student Responsibilities:

Each student will be responsible to pay for their script and costumes. (As in the past, I try to keep costs at a minimum.) Commitment for the rehearsals through the productions is required for assigned roles. These drama classes are taught by Diane St. Pierre.

Public Speaking

This class requires a $20.00 materials fee and the class fee is $25.00 per month. This class is taught by Diane St. Pierre.

Algebra I

This course will cover basic algebraic concepts with an emphasis on student understanding and success. Class will focus on explanation and discussion of new concepts and examples. Achievement is based on completion of the course work contained in the textbook, not on time spent in class. Some students will complete the course in two semesters some in three. Successful completion of this course will prepare the student for Geometry.

Required Textbook: Elementary Algebra by Harold Jacobs

This course is designed for High School students who are not doing well with their current curriculum. They must be willing to discuss with the class how they reason through problems and openly show all work on assignments, quizzes, and tests. Analysis of mistakes is the best way to assess a student’s ability to recall information accurately. All students will be required to respect the individuality of each person in class and make no comparisons of their achievements with anyone else.

The class fee for this class is $28.00 per month. Bonita Tyler is the instructor.

Elementary Spanish

This class will be an introduction to Spanish with a focus on basic conversational skills and vocabulary. The workbook we will be using has vocabulary lists, a pronunciation key, and an answer key so that parents can help their child at home. We will also incorporate lessons that will help broaden the student's understanding of hispanic cultures. The workbook required is Skills for Success: Spanish (Elementary), published by Carson Dellosa. It can be found at the Parent Teacher Store, the Kentucky School Service catalog or at carsondellosa.com. It ranges from $12-$13. There is a one-time materials fee of $10 and the class is $20 a month. Ashley Gutierrez is the instructor and has a Bachelor's Degree from UofL with a minor in Spanish.

Milile/High School Spanish

This class can be taken by beginners or intermediate Spanish speakers since it starts with the basics and moves into more advanced grammar, vocabulary, and sentence structure skills. The students will learn conversational skills while focusing on pronunciation and grammar and will be required to complete textbook exercises at home. We will also incorporate lessons that will help broaden the student's understanding of hispanic cultures. The required book is Easy Spanish Step-by-Step, published by McGraw Hill. It can be found at Borders or online at books.mcgraw-hill.com for $11.95. It is also recommended that each student have a Spanish-English Dictionary. The instructor recommends Webster's which can be found at nearly every book store for about $6-$7. There is a one-time materials fee of $10 and the course is $20 a month. Ashley Gutierrez is the instructor and has a Bachelor's Degree from UofL with a minor in Spanish.

World History

We will be using The Mystery of History by Linda Lacour Hobar. The curriculum provides the student with a historically accurate, bible centered approach to learning history. The complete chronological lessons include hands-on activities and fun projects, weekly timelines and mapping assignments, quizzes and worksheets.

We will begin around 1200, and be studying famous persons and events such as King John and the Magna Carta, Marco Polo, Sir William Wallace and Robert Bruce, the Aztecs, The Black Death of Europe, Joan of Arc, Johannes Guttenberg and the printing press and many others.

Monthly fee is $15 and a one time class fee of $15. Students will need a 3 ring binder w/dividers. I am a long time home schooling mom and history enthusiast. I look forward to sharing this adventure with your students.

You can email or call me @ 538-6838.

Latin 3:30 - 4:30

We will be using Latina Christiana II. Highly motivated students should do fine, but I would recommend reviewing book I over the summer. This curriculum includes pronouncing (Note: CD should be purchased along with student workbook), spelling and translating approximately 200 Latin words, grammar, derivatives, history and geography. The students are given weekly drill forms to practice at home and puzzles/games to reinforce the previous weeks lesson.

Course fee is $15/month and a one time fee of $10. I am a novice Latin instructor, however the curriculum is designed for those who have no background in Latin or foreign languages. The author strongly recommends a class situation for Latin.

There is much to memorize in the first few years of Latin, group recitation is a pleasant and effective way to accomplish this task.”
