*We’d like to say a big “Thank You” to Los Monitos Language Center for sponsoring the January LIVE meeting with a cash donation to HFHG. Each sponsor who donates to the ministry of HFHG is helping us to provide support, events, and educational opportunities to homeschoolers all over Kentuckiana. Please show your appreciation by supporting our sponsors! Below is more information about Los Monitos Language Center.
“Los Monitos has the most established Spanish Language Program in the Louisville area. Its roots began with Children’s Programs (Los Monitos actually means “little monkeys”), but has grown into much more. Today, we are Los Monitos Language Center – providing Instruction, Translation and Interpreting in 8 languages plus English. We provide these services in corporate, private and classroom settings. We currently has two classroom locations – our primary office on Frankfort Avenue and Stilz and our new classroom in Prospect (next to Goshen Elementary).
We bring language instruction versatility: Many languages in Many Settings.
For the Homeschooling community, I believe we have a lot to offer. Experienced instructors – many native speakers. Scalable and Flexible to meet the specific student needs in groups AND the ability to work one-on-one if the student/parent desires. We can customize our programs for specific enrichment, whether that emphasizes faith topics and missions, language fundamentals, exposure to many languages and their cultures, pre- or post-adoption instruction in the language of the country that a child was born, etc. Find out more at www.losmonitos.com. “
Looking forward to seeing everyone at the LIVE meeting!
HFHG Kid’s Craft Bazaar
On Saturday, December 5th several of our HFHG families headed to the Jefferson Mall to set up shop for our 1st annual HFHG Kid’s Craft Bazaar. This wasn’t your usual holiday bazaar, as all of the homemade goodies being sold were made by homeschooled children.

Our precious students even stood outside singing Christmas carols to mall shoppers and drawing in many customers.

Items sold at the bazaar included jewelry, scarves, Christmas stockings, ornaments, bookmarks, candy and so much more! It was a great opportunity for our students to earn money for Christmas while learning what it takes to create a product and bring it to market. Check out some of our young entrepreneurs …

HFHG Young Authors Contest.

Young Authors was originally a writing contest hosted by the Courier-Journal for students to write, revise, and create their own books. Participating in this contest allowed students the opportunity to learn about and implement the writing process. The Courier-Journal stopped hosting this contest two years ago, so HFHG decided we would host our own!
Nearly 40 homeschooledstudents in grades 1 through 12 submitted entries into our first annual Young Authors contest. These entries were required to be the student’s own original work of fiction. The length of the piece was left open to the author’s discretion. We received stories that were only a few sentences long and stories that were nearly 50 typed pages! Stories ranged in theme from simple readers, to fairytales, to historical fiction. Andto be honest, we were blown away by the work that went into these books. Not only were the stories excellent, but the books themselves were simply beautiful. Students were required to both illustrate and bind their books. The bindings were as varied as the stories. Some students chose homemade binding, comb binding, and even professional printing from photo stores.
All of the HFHG Young Authors books were on display at the HFHG Young Authors Awards Banquet on Friday, Nov.13th. This banquet was a potluck dinner for all participants and their families. Winners were announced and awarded on this evening as well and are as follows:

More Field Day Pics
We just couldn’t resist posting a few more great pics from Field Day…What fun!
Field Day 2009
What a fun and muddy day we had at Field Day 2009! The games were played with cloudy skies, but no rain. We had grilled hot dogs for lunch, followed by the awards ceremony. As the clean up was being wrapped up, it started pouring down rain. We are thankful to God for holding back the rain until our Field Day was complete!
The check-in is over, and we are about to begin the 2009 Summer Games!
Hurdles!
The little ones prepare for the foot race.
Oh no! We meant to get a group picture before everyone started leaving!
Here are the athletes who stayed after the awards ceremony was over.
Nursing Home Egg Hunt Service Project
About 25 children participated in the Easter Egg hunt at a local nursing home. Each child brought Easter cards or gifts to give out to the residents, and the residents gave out candy. The nursing home was littered with plastic eggs for the kids to collect. It always means so much to these residents to see and visit with all of the children! Our prayer is that our visit was a blessing to many, and a physical manifestation of Jesus’ love for these many lonely people.
HFHG’s March LIVE Meeting
In case you haven’t heard, the HFHG Live Meeting on March 26th was a huge success!
A room full of Kentuckiana homeschoolparents came together to enjoy an evening discussion about choosing curriculum. With the upcoming convention season on the horizon, many of us are thinking about new curriculum for next year.
We heard from a panelist of seasoned homeschoolers: Suellen Barnes, Tracy Pennington, Terese Cooper, Cathy Flowers, Jan Veal, Margie Hester, Alicia Ahlers, andGina Glenn. They all shared with us their favorite homeschool methods and curriculum.
Finally, a long line of parents formed to talk one-on-one with our panelists and view their books up close. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped to make it a wonderful and informative night. Watch the website and yahoo group for upcoming LIVE events!
Our Statement of Faith
*I believe there is one God who exists in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. * I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s one and only son, my one and only Savior. * I believe that our Lord Jesus Christ, born on earth fully human and fully divine, lived a sinless life, died on the cross to pay for my sins, rose bodily from the dead, and ascended into Heaven. * I believe that I am saved only by the grace of God through faith in the atoning death of Jesus Christ.
